Scarce in the Waterberg, with scattered populations and individual trees, mostly in the south on deeper sandy soils. There is one exceptionally large example with a canopy diameter of 61m (photo below right) growing on the farm Kouwfontein south of Alma.

Perhaps the largest known example of this species, this well known tree at Kouwfontein has a diameter of 61 m. More than a century ago, in 1899, there was a blacksmith workshop located in its shade, so it has been known about for a long time.
